The 25C residential energy tax credits have been reinstated and apply retroactively to 2012 and the current 2013 tax year. Under this program, a homeowner can receive up to a $500 federal tax credit for installing high efficiency HVAC systems or components. There are actually three different credits that can be earned: A $300 credit, a $150 credit, and a $50 credit....all of which combine to equal $500.
$300 Tax Credit: Applicable for the installation of the following:
Split Heat Pump System that meets or exceeds 15.00 SEER / 12.50 EER / 8.50 HSPF
Split Straight Air Conditioning Systems that meets or exceeds 16.00 SEER / 13.00 EER
Packaged Air Conditioning (including Gas Packs) that meet or exceed 14.00 SEER / 12.00 EER
Packaged Heat Pump (including Dual Fuel) that meet or exceed 14.00 SEER / 12.00 EER / 8.00 HSPF
The tax credit is equal to 10% of the installed price, or $300, whichever is less.
$150 Tax Credit: Applicable for the installation of a Gas Furnace that meets or exceeds 95% AFUE rating. The tax credit is equal to 10% of the installed price, or $150, whichever is less.
$50 Tax Credit: Applicable for the installation of a Gas Furnace or Gas Fired Package Unit where the fan uses no more than 2% of the furnaces total energy consumption (Advanced Main Air Circulation Fan). This is a flat $50 credit, it is not 10% of the installed cost.
$300 Tax Credit: Applicable for the installation of the following:
